Handling and declaration of raw materials

From the very beginning, we have been able to work with partner companies, brands and suppliers that offer high-quality products. For all our raw materials, be it leather, carbon, gemstones or jewelry, but also for organic materials such as corals or pearls, we work with companies that also share our values as small and medium-sized enterprises. We reserve the right not to name them all for reasons of discretion.

Oekogold" label

Since 2013, we have sourced the precious metals for all our own products exclusively from a precious metal recycling source from Gyr Edelmetalle (CH, Baar).

This means that the jewelry made in our studio, which is not made from precious metals from customers, is only made from precious metals that come from a source certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) in London.

It should be mentioned that recycled precious metals are usually standard for small and medium-sized Swiss goldsmiths and jewellers like ours. This sets us apart from large companies or industry leaders, who usually obtain their raw materials from sources they are responsible for themselves or from wholesalers. It is also worth mentioning that the primary sources of metals cannot be determined due to their long tradition in human history.

Precious metals from customers

According to Swiss law (from 2023), every legal or natural person must be registered as a gold acceptance point in order to be allowed to accept customer gold. As a company, we have done this and can therefore continue to produce jewelry with brought precious metal for our customers.

As our workshop is not equipped for industrial air pressure casting, the number of jewelry designs that we can produce entirely in our workshop using customer gold is limited. For design requests that require die-casting, we work together with a Bernese SME, to whom we send the customer's precious metal so that we can also fulfill these requests. It is also important to mention that jewelry made from precious metal brought in by the customer does not reach the high standards of industrially cast precious metal.

Precious metals are generally not accepted as a means of payment. This can be adjusted depending on the order or situation.

Suppliers of jewelry and watches

All of Stadelmann 1972's suppliers are carefully selected and always share our values. This also applies to the jewelry sector; we have been working with many partner companies for several decades and they are part of our history.

We work with suppliers to offer jewelry that requires production techniques that we cannot perform in our atelier. We are very grateful to work with experienced and renowned partners in order to present our customers with a diversified range of high quality products.

Other raw materials

In most goldsmith workshops today, it is standard practice to carry out part of the production process by machine. This is also the case for us, for example when ordering the raw material for a routine production such as a wedding ring with an oval profile;

We order a blank made of the desired precious metal from our main supplier - instead of ordering the precious metal in wire form and bending or soldering it ourselves. This saves working time and makes the ring more stable because it is manufactured in one piece without any joints. The raw ring is then further processed in our workshop.

This is also the process for other pieces with external components, such as a leather bracelet. For this, we first order a leather braided in Switzerland and then transform it into a bracelet in our studio.

Origin of gemstones

Since 2002, Nicole Stadelmann and Verena Römer, also a certified gemologist G.G. GIA, have been working in our store at Marktgasse 29. With their knowledge and contacts, the two gemstone experts have further expanded the foundation laid by Jürg Stadelmann in order to obtain the perfect 'treasures of the earth', which the goldsmiths in the studio process into pieces of jewelry.

Nicole Stadelmann, Managing Director and gemmologist at G.G. GIA, on the role of gemstones in jewelry: "Gemstones have always fascinated us and are the great passion of our company. This was passed down from my grandfather through my father. Today, we offer transparency about the origin of the gemstones and buy them directly from the gemstone cutters and dealers according to quality and perfect cut".

The various gemstone cutters who supply our jewelry are trusted partners with the same values as we have. They obtain their stones or raw materials from responsible sources and mines, which they usually visit or even own themselves. The raw stones are then cut in Germany or Switzerland.

Origin of diamonds

The global trade in diamonds is heavily regulated by various companies such as "De Beers" and differs fundamentally from the trade in other gemstones. The diamonds of these companies are sold to so-called "sightholders" as if on a stock exchange, such as in Antwerp (Belgium), who in turn trade in the diamonds in their countries of origin.

The diamonds in our jewelry all come from dealers who are either sightholders themselves or source stones from such dealers. Our suppliers are committed to ensuring that no gemstones come from irresponsible sources, such as the Marange region in Zimbabwe (as of 2024).

Packaging, decorations and miscellaneous

Even with everyday objects and themes such as the cardboard ring box, through partners in the digital sector to store and window decorations, we pay attention to the place of manufacture and the materials used. Wherever possible, we try to work with local partners who use sustainable raw materials or processing methods while remaining true to our values.

Well-known partner companies are:

  • Securitas (various security services) CH, Berne
  • NAMO (Branding & Webdesign) CH, Bern
  • Mario Burkhard Art Floral (floral art) CH, Bern
